University of Malaya Entrepreneurship Centre or UMEC is an entity under the office of the Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs). UMEC is located at Ground floor, Block E, Perdanasiswa Complex, University of Malaya.

UMEC's responsibility is to inculcate entrepreneurship culture and to foster entrepreneurial development among university students in the University of Malaya. Under UMEC, there are 2 student organizations namely ENACTUS which is formerly known as SIFE and also Student Start Up of University of Malaya (STEP) which are actively involved in entrepreneurship activities. 

Besides that, UMEC also prepares relevant entrepreneurship courses in the university, organizes visits to industries and arranges industrial training for students of public universities (IPTA) in Malaysia. UMEC's main role is to manage, innovate and expand all activities pertaining to the sustainable development of student entrepreneurship.
 
 Observation and Interview session with UMEC Representatives

During I comes to UMEC for interview session, I was been assist by two representatives from UMEC since Pn maryam had go to the meeting.  I had been help by Mis maziati and mr nazrin who explain to me about UMEC activities recently.

Usially UMEC will handle the UM student regarding to build the self discipline regarding to entrepreneurship.  They called “ Lean entrepreneur” , this means that UMEC they encourage student to learn how to start up business WITHOUT granted for loan/ guarantee from the bank. Because this due to more entrepreneur that involve to business, when they had a huge loan, this will lead them to become bankrupt and cannot survive for short term.  They don’t want this to happen for the student that wants to start to build career as an entrepreneurship. Its also encourage student to identify the opportunity and learned how to creates the value from its opportunity.

Instead of that they had more company that deal with UMEC to build an entrepreneurship programmed for UM student.  For instance is SME , the student are encourage to engaged with some competition regarding to entrepreneurship , to learned and develop critical thinking in handling task.  For those who win the competition, they will gets a cash as pay for it.

There are one big project was been arrange by UMEC which Karnival Kerjaya that will be held on this September at dewan tunku chancellor UM for purpose to bring all the employer in one root, and also make student able can apply for the job or industrial training.  This will bring fresh pair of eye to the student regarding to their future working environment.

When I ask about how they raise the fund for UMEC, usually they will get some portion from UM and mostly they had to raise it by themselves maybe due to selling the goods and so on. Instead of that, they get the fund from the company outside that collaborates with them. There have an event where the employer will sponsor some portion like the employee pay the allowance to the um student who winning the contest held by them.
